Apple pie takes time when you try to make them properly. However, you can make a mini-size apple pie in a minute simply by cutting out frozen puff pastry dough into a round shape. Apples are richer in flavor when poached with sake. Also, mixing sake with egg yolk for glazing gives a beautiful gloss to the apple pie when it is baked!
1/2 an apple |
2 sheets of frozen puff pastry dough |
(A) 2 tablespoons of sugar |
┗ 1 tablespoon of sake |
┗ 5g of butter |
(B) Egg yolk as needed |
┗ 1 teaspoon of sake |
Step 1:
Peel the apple and cut it into 5mm diced pieces. Put the apple in a pan, add (A) and mix well. Heat over low to medium heat, and boil until no water remains. Mix sometimes while boiling.
Step 2:
When the apple turns glossy, turn off the heat and cool the apple well.
Step 3:
Preheat the oven at 210°C.
Step 4:
Take out frozen puff pastry dough from the fridge and make some holes using a fork. Using a large and a small cup, cut out the dough into round and ring shapes. Layer the ring-shaped dough over the round-shaped dough.
Step 5:
Put (Step 2) in the middle, apply well-mixed (B) on the surface and bake at 210°C for 8 minutes. Then, lower the temperature to 180°C and bake for another 8 minutes.
