Continuous Growth in Sake Export Value in 2020

Like many other industries, the sake industry was affected by the global pandemic of Cover-19 in 2020. However, while the export volume was reduced to 83% compared to 2019, the export value increased slightly to 103.1% totaling 24.1 billion yen. This indicates the shift in consumer preference towards more premium sakes compared to the previous year. Export value has been consistently growing in the past 11 years. 

Hong Kong became the top importer in 2020, followed by China, USA, Taiwan and Singapore, showing a strong trade in Asia. Export to China has increased dramatically in the past 10 years, with 1600% more export compared to 10 years ago.
