Founded in 1836 (Tenpo 7), our brewery is located in Sagae City, Yamagata Prefecture. Nestled in a basin with the majestic Mt. Gassan of the Asahi mountain range to the west and the Zao ski resort in the Ouu mountain range to the east, the area is blessed with an abundance of soft water from Mt. Gassan’s spring water. This soft water creates a sake profile that is smooth and light, and it is in this environment that we have carried on sake brewing traditions for generations.
Our fundamental philosophy is “Quality First.” We believe that making delicious sake relies on “land, ingredients, and people”—an embodiment of terroir. With over 180 years of tradition, honed craftsmanship, and the passion of our brewers, we have received the prestigious Superior Prize in the National Sake Appraisal for three consecutive years.
Today, we produce sake, authentic shochu, and plum wine.
