Located in Saiki City, in the southernmost part of Oita Prefecture, Oochi Shuzou was established in 1885 (Meiji 18) as a sake brewery under the patronage of the Mouri family, who were the feudal lords of the time. The brewery operated in the castle town of Saiki Castle, which was ruled by the Mouri clan.
After facing a succession crisis and the threat of closure, the business was revived in 2019 (Reiwa 1) when two brothers from the local area took over the management.
With the theme of creating “subtle, aromatic, and richly flavored sake to complement meals,” Oochi Shuzou is committed to producing sake that enhances the dining experience.
The story of the newly reborn Oochi Shuzou is far from over, with many dreams yet to be realized.
