On the shores of the bridge connecting Kyushu and the Chinese mainland lies the island of Iki, the birthplace of barley shochu. In a quiet corner of this island, the history of Iki Shochu continues with clarity and purity, embodied in a single drop of barley shochu: Saruko.
Back in 1903 (Meiji 36), our founder established the distillery along the banks of the Saruko River, a picturesque sanctuary renowned for its pristine and abundant waters. These waters provide an ideal environment for making and aging shochu.
The name Saruko originates from this very river, and our founder, inspired by its widespread recognition, adopted it as the name for this exceptional shochu.
