Introduction

Since founded in 1661, the family has been brewing sake without interruption for nearly 350 years, making it the oldest sake brewery in Miyagi Prefecture. The family was founded when Oribe Uchigasaki I was ordered by Masamune Date, lord of the Sendai domain, to establish an inn in Tomiya, and served as the main camp. The sake brewing business was started by Sakuemon II. The sake brewing business was started by Sakuemon Sakuemon II, and the traditional cold brewing method is still practiced today, and the sake carefully brewed by the Nanbu a cheif sake maker has won gold medals many times at the National New Sake Competition. The name of the sake, "Hoyo," comes from the Chinese legend "Houming Chaoyang(when a phoenix cries on the morning of New Year's Day, it drives away misfortune and bestows good fortune)" by Li Zhenxian of the Tang Dynasty, and is a brand with good luck.

Visiting/Tasting

Brewery tours are available (open June-August, reservations required).
No tasting available.
Open: 2nd and 4th Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, except Obon end-year and New Year's holidays.
Sake can be purchased at the office on business days.
