Founded in 1603 (Keicho 8) in Sakawa, our brewery began as the personal sake producer for Shigeyoshi Fukao, who accompanied Kazutoyo Yamanouchi when he moved to Tosa.
The name Tsukasabotan was later bestowed by Count Mitsuaki Tanaka, a notable samurai from Sakawa and the leader of the Rikuentai militia following the deaths of Ryoma Sakamoto and Shintaro Nakaoka. Tanaka declared, "Botan (peony) is the king of all flowers, and this sake shall be the leader among them."
Known as the brewery most closely associated with Ryoma Sakamoto, we have been crafting sake for over 400 years, loved by Tosa's great historical figures. Tsukasabotan is a classic dry sake that embodies the spirit of Tosa, enhancing and elevating the flavors of fine cuisine.
