Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, where the brewery is located, is a port town facing the scenic Seto Inland Sea, which was written about in the Tale of Genji in the Heian period (794-1185). 1860, the brewery started its business in the late Edo period as a brewer (soy sauce production) and money changer, and started sake production in 1960.
Currently, the company produces sake year-round using only locally grown sake rice from Hyogo Prefecture; in 2017, it began producing Western-style sake; since 2005, it has been exporting and currently exports 90% of its sales to 30 countries around the world, mainly in Europe and the United States.
