Founded in 1873 (Meiji 6), Hirano Jozo, the maker of "Bojo," is located in Yamato Town, Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture.
This town, known as the "Land of Kokin-Denju," is celebrated as a historical hub of Japanese poetry. Particularly famous is the "Water of Kokin-Denju no Sato," renowned for its quality as one of Japan's finest waters. At Hirano Jozo, this water is drawn into the brewery’s garden and used not only for brewing sake but also for washing rice and cleaning tools. The saying "Great sake comes from great water" has long been known, and this exceptional water is undoubtedly the secret behind the delicious taste of the Oku Mino sake brand, "Bojo."
