Introduction

Founded in 1735 (Edo period). The current brewery owner is the ninth generation. The brewery's name at the time was "Satsuma-ya." Kayo, the wife of the sixth-generation brewery owner, Kisaburo Ezaki, was the older sister of Hakushu Kitahara, the poetic sage of Yanagawa, and the eldest daughter of Nagataro Kitahara of Kitahara Shuzojo. In 1941, Hakushu, accompanied by his wife, children, and disciples, traveled westward to his hometown of Yanagawa and to the summit of Mt. Kiyomizu in Setaka Town, where he hosted a grand poetry gathering. He drank the sake, "Kikubijin," and wrote the name in bold strokes on three hanging scrolls, which became widely known. Since then, "Kikubijin" has been associated with Hakushu's naming, and the public continues to recognize it as such.

The brewing water comes from the subterranean water of the Yabe River, which flows beside the brewery. The rice used is carefully selected sake rice, including Yamada Nishiki and Yume Ikkon from the Chikugo region, brewed with the dedicated skill of the Yanagawa toji.
