Located in Toho Village, on the eastern edge of Fukuoka Prefecture, Kataoka Shuzou has been crafting handmade sake with care since 1898 (Meiji 31), using the high-quality water and rice from the Hikosan mountain range. Among its offerings, the Junmai Ginjo Sake Toho Ikkon, brewed with Iwaya Spring Water—recognized as one of the Heisei Era's Top 100 Famous Waters—and terraced rice grown with this water, stands out as a rich and deeply flavorful masterpiece.
With the desire to revitalize the local community, we enjoy working alongside a group of local residents who join us in the rice-growing and sake-making process.
Every year on the last Sunday of April, we hold a Kurabiraki (brewery open house) event, where visitors can enjoy sake using unique ceramic sake vessels, a specialty of this region known for its pottery.
