Founded in 1845 (Kōka 2), our brewery began its journey in what was then Yamada Village, located along the Zenkoji Highway near the castle town of Nagoya. The founder, Zenbee Osakaya, laid the foundation for our legacy.
The name "Kintora" was bestowed during the early Showa period by the third-generation Zenbee. Being born in the Year of the Tiger (Tora), he combined this with inspiration from the golden shachihoko adorning Nagoya Castle. Taking the "fish" radical from the character for shachihoko, he crafted the name "Kintora" (Golden Tiger).
With a commitment to crafting refined, light, and smooth sake, inspired by the Echigo brewing tradition, we take meticulous care in brewing each tank, ensuring every step is handled with dedication.
In recent years, our efforts have earned us numerous accolades, including seven Gold Prizes at the Annual Japan Sake Awards, the Aichi Prefectural Governor’s Award for three consecutive years, and the Grand Gold Prize at the "Delicious Sake in a Wine Glass Awards." These honors reflect our exceptional craftsmanship, particularly in ginjo-style brewing.
