Obata Shuzo brews "Manotsuru" on Sado Island. The brewery's motto is "Shihowajo - brewing with the harmony of rice, water, people, and Sado Island".
The second brewery, "Gakko Gura", an abandoned school that was converted into a sake brewery, uses local rice and renewable energy to produce sake in a recycling-oriented manner, using all Sado Island products.
The Obata Sake Brewery headquarters is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except during winter (free admission, parking available, tastings available).
Reservations required for groups.
The second brewery, Gakko Gura, has a café (see website for days open).
