Founded in 1884 by Yaemon Minakata, father of the world-renowned biologist "Kumagusu Minakata".The company name and sake name, "Sekai-Ittou", was named by Shigenobu Okuma, a former leader of the Meiji era.Sake and liqueur production is conducted in Wakayama Castle Town. The company produces the "Minakata" brand of sake, which is also the name of the brewery, and the "Waka no Megumi" brand of liqueur, which is made from fruits grown in Wakayama Prefecture, a fruit kingdom.
The company's Daiginjo Kyokusen Minakata won the Platinum Award of No 1 Japan at Sake-China 2018, the first sake competition in Asia, and Waka no Megumi Nanbu no Umeshu was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National Umeshu Competition 2022, where it won the Gold Award for three consecutive years.
