This free, digital collection is a media hub for users to learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/basic\/japanese-sake-history\/\">history<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/basic\/sake-tradition-culture\/\">culture<\/a> of traditional Japanese drinks, \u2018kokushu\u2019. &#8216;Kokushu&#8217; is a collective term that refers to sake, shochu, awamori, and mirin and literally means \u2018national alcoholic drink\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kokushu is now enjoyed by <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/topic\/news\/continuous-growth-in-sake-export-value-in-2020\/\">many people on a global scale<\/a>. However, with the constantly changing pace of modern society, many traditional and cultural aspects end up overlooked. The main mission of the Kokushu Digital Museum is to preserve the history and legacy of kokushu in the hope of passing down the knowledge and appreciation of the culture on to the next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pre-Opening Release<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As of July 20th, 2021, the pre-opening release of the Kokushu Digital Museum consists of a compilation of video-based media educational resources that outlines the traditional aspects of the culture, <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/basic\/how-is-sake-made\/\">production<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/professional\/sake-regionality\/\">regionality<\/a> of kokushu. An example of resources available in the museum include the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td>\u30fbDocumentary films that feature the origin, traditional methods, and taste of kokushu.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u30fbExplanatory videos that outline the <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/sake-statistics-data\/ingredients\/\">ingredients<\/a>, drinking styles, and history of kokushu.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u30fbBrewery tours that introduce brewing and distillation techniques (including VR tours).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u30fbRegional promotional videos that showcase kokushu that are specific to certain areas of Japan.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u30fbOnline education course videos that teach the culture of drinking kokushu.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u30fbCommentary videos that discuss popular topics about kokushu in Japan.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to video resources, the museum provides a database of kokushu museums and <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/topic\/quick-guides\/sake-history-recap-the-oldest-sake-brewery-in-japan\/\">historical locations around Japan<\/a> for users who are interested in physically visiting and experiencing the history of kokushu first-hand. This list details a brief introduction to each location, what makes the location unique, and what they offer such as tastings, tours, and other resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grand Opening Release<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Grand Opening\u2019 of the Kokushu Digital Museum is scheduled for <a href=\"https:\/\/japansake.or.jp\/sake\/en\/topic\/events\/happy-sake-day-october-1st\/\">\u2018Sake Day\u2019 on October 1st, 2021<\/a>.
